UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT

          SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA

In the week ending Nov. 13, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 334,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 337,000. The 4-week moving average was 338,250, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week's revised average of 337,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.2 percent for the week ending Nov. 6, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.2 percent.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending Nov. 6 was 2,792,000, a decrease of 16,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,808,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,803,250, an increase of 500 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,802,750.
 

UNADJUSTED DATA
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 310,837 in the week ending Nov. 13, a decrease of 43,724 from the previous week. There were 347,719 initial claims in the comparable week in 2003.

The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent during the week ending Nov. 6, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,398,544, a decrease of 35,603 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.4 percent and the volume was 2,996,755.

Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending Oct. 30.

767 individuals filed continued claims under the Federal Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation (TEUC) program during the week ending Oct. 30.

Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,220 in the week ending Nov. 6, an increase of 751 from the prior week. There were 1,947 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 165 from the preceding week.

There were 18,647 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending Oct. 30, an increase of 1,696 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 28,426, an increase of 735 from the prior week.

The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending Oct. 30 were in Alaska (4.6 percent), Puerto Rico (3.8), Oregon (2.7), Pennsylvania (2.7), California (2.6), New Jersey (2.6), Michigan (2.5), Arkansas (2.4), Washington (2.4), and Massachusetts (2.3).

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending Nov. 6 were in Michigan (+5,213), Florida (+4,108), Pennsylvania (+3,667), California (+3,491), and New Jersey (+3,005), while the largest decreases were in Puerto Rico (-655), Oklahoma (-322), Utah (-283), Nebraska (-169), and Kentucky
(-121).
