Second Annual Region V Youth Development Conference
Region V is planning a Youth Workforce Conference December 5 - 7 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown in Chicago, Illinois. The conference will provide information, program models, exhibits and answers to the issues that concern Youth Programs. This year's conference workshops reflect preferences of Local Youth Councils and Youth Program Operators in all 10 Region V States and will feature three themes:
Partnerships--building and enhancing the community partnerships fundamental to comprehensive youth services;
Leveraging resources--to expand capability to reach the youth who need our current services; and
Youth involvement--to ensure that programs genuinely respond to the needs of youth, and that young people take ownership of the services provided.
A preliminary agenda and registration information will soon be available.

Eligible Training Providers
Office of Adult Services staff participated in an August 30 conference call organized by the National Governors' Association on Eligible Training Provider list issues. Representatives of more than 20 states participated in the call. Discussion focused on effective approaches to maximizing a customer's training options and ensuring informed customer choice. The call was structured around a grid listing issues and action items developed by the Adult Services WIA Readiness Workgroup. Participants provided input to Federal staff on the plan of action, and shared examples of effective practices.
The ETP subgroup of the Adult Services Workgroup will meet in September to refine the action plan, using input from the call. In late September, NGA will host a second conference call to facilitate a broad discussion of the revised plan. Contact: Joan Burchell (202-693-3542; JBurchell@doleta.gov)
