Extension of Approval of Collection of Data Form MA 8-7

  1. Purpose. To inform State Employment Security Agencies (SESAs) of the extension of approval from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for the use of the MA 8-7, Transmittal for Unemployment Insurance Materials.

  2. References. Section 303(a)(6) of the Social Security Act (SSA); Unemployment Insurance Program Letter (UIPL) 07-97; Employment Security Manual Part I, Section 1215.

  3. Background. UIPL 07-97 described the requirement that States submit proposed and enacted unemployment compensation legislation, as well as other materials, to the Department of Labor as a condition of receipt of administrative grants. The MA 8-7 is the vehicle used by States to submit such materials. OMB approval of the MA 8-7 for use as a collection instrument was scheduled to expire on March 31, 2001.

The Department of Labor, in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 [44 U.S.C. 3506(c)(2)(A)], published a notice in the Federal Register soliciting comments concerning the proposed extension collection of the MA 8-7, Transmittal for Unemployment Insurance Materials. This notice appeared on page 60689 of the Federal Register dated October 12, 2000, Volume 65, Number 198. Approval for the extension of collection of the MA 8-7 has been received from OMB and is effective through April 30, 2004.

  4. Burden Disclosure. Persons are not required to respond to this collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB control number. Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 1 minute per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information. Send comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this collection of information, including suggestions for reducing this burden to the U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Workforce Security, Room C4518, Washington, D.C. 20210 (Paperwork Reduction Project 1205-0222).

  5. Action Required. SESAs are requested to continue using the MA 8-7 to submit materials to the Department as required by Sections 303(a)(6), SSA, and UIPL 07-97. Old copies of the MA 8-7 (those having an approval date ending on or before March 31, 2001) may be used until the supply of such is exhausted.

  6. Inquiries. Inquiries should be directed to the appropriate Regional Office.
