Examples of Services Provided to the Employer Community

Purpose. To distribute a ready reference guide to many of the employer services that are being provided by the Workforce Development System (WDS).

Background. The Employment and Training Administration's Strategic Plan established a goal to increase employer satisfaction with the public workforce development system. Strategies include: engaging business leaders as partners and customers; developing labor market information systems and services that support employer requirements and concerns; and assisting employers in developing their workforces.

Since the employer is a primary customer of the Federal-State unemployment insurance (UI) program, State Employment Security Agencies (SESAs) have traditionally developed strong partnerships with the employer community. Most recently, however, SESAs have been implementing many new and innovative improvements to enhance the level and types of services provided to employers. These services range from furnishing basic information to employers on Federal and State UI programs as well as other program requirements, to making technological improvements for employers in meeting these requirements, to delivering personal customized services to meet the needs of individual employers. The Office of Workforce Security recognizes the importance and value in identifying and disseminating information on the many ways that the UI system is serving employers within the WDS.

Compilation of Services for Employers. Examples of services for the employer community have been gathered and compiled to share with all States. This compilation includes both new and innovative ideas, along with the more traditional approaches to providing services to employers. The services are arrayed in two broad categories. The first category, "Providing Information on Services Offered" includes information on web sites concerning Federal laws and regulations, seminars and trade fairs, recent appellate decisions and other employer-related service information. The second category, "Improvements in Technology" describes various Internet applications, the ability to file required reports electronically and in combination with one another, and keyboard search capacity for labor market information and job listings.

The examples in this compilation were provided by State and Regional Office staff and are attached to this UI Information Bulletin.
